Organized by the Gordiz research and production company and supported by the Skolkovo Innovation Foundation and the All-Russian Research Institute of Breeding (VNIIPlem), the conference brought together more than 80 researchers from most regions of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

The participants discussed a program for creating a working platform to exchange experience, theoretical knowledge and methodological approaches to solving current professional problems of animal genetics.

The conference discussed a wide range of issues related to molecular genetic research in agriculture in the context of modern challenges and the collective West sanctions pressure.

A BelSU representative, Doctor of Biological Sciences and the Director of the Research Centre for Genomic Selection Eduard Snegin, focused his speech on the fact that agricultural growers tend to disregard and overlook developments in modern artificial selection, coming from deep knowledge of Genetics. The scientist identified the pain points of current livestock breeding and proposed how to resolve them.

After reports and discussions, the participants of the conference had a chance to visit a specialized cluster in the Slava technology park and see the capabilities of its state-of-art production sites, which employ high-tech methods for creating reagents for molecular genetic research.

Following the conference, the scientists outlined joint research paths for BelSU, the Gordiz Scientific and Production Complex and the VNIIPlem Institute.

‘The main field of joint activities is validation of molecular genetic testing methods of farm animals of various species and breeds, as well as improvement of the Russian analytic database, which allows accumulating data on the gene pools of domestic livestock,’ said professor Snegin.
