Spora Table
Spora as a metaphor of seed and dissemination, allows easy moving in and out which meets a contemporary need within a population in constant move and change. Based on a modular design, it’s a disassembled table that achieves a significant production efficiency and portability which directly impacts on the sustainability of the product. Its material engineering maximizes the qualities of components which makes it possible to reduce its volume and, most importantly, increases the life of the table compared to other furniture. We use responsible materials such as adhesives derived from potato starch and working with FSC certified wood in a cross laminated timber board and veneer made from recycled textiles with a potato binder. Through design and material selection, it strives to restore the relationship with the user by offering part replacement and repair options, while its design raises awareness and promotes the concept of circularity and product sustainability.
Concept
Valchromat is an innovative and environmentally friendly engineered wood product known for its vibrant colors and versatile applications. Unlike traditional wood, Valchromat is made from wood fibers and dyes bonded together using a special resin, creating a unique material with distinct characteristics.
High-volume industrial production (more than 80 units per month) is made possible by its production feasibility, achieved through process optimization derived from industry 4.0’s systematization using a 3-axis flatbed CNC cutting system
The Spora table was designed with sustainability at its core, utilizing eco-friendly materials and efficient distribution. It optimizes space on a standard 122cm x 244cm board to produce three 120cm x 80cm tables, minimizing waste. Its flat-pack design reduces packaging and carbon emissions during transport. Easily disassemblable, it supports user convenience and effective recycling by separating metallic and organic components. The table can be locally manufactured using standard processes, eliminating the need for international shipping.
Thanks to the innovative leg-to-top assembly system, it’s possible to assemble and disassemble the table in minutes, creating a ready-to-assemble (RTA) product. This fosters user interaction with the product, fostering an emotional connection that will help prevent its disposal due to perceived obsolescence.
