As part of Science Week, students at Belgorod National Research University gathered at the Centre for Civic and Patriotic èƵ for an inspiring meeting with young scientists from the university.
The event was organised by the BelSU Scientific Library, named after N. Strakhov, in collaboration with the Centre for Civil and Patriotic èƵ of Students. Attendees included students from various institutes, including Engineering and Digital Technologies, Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology, Economics and Management, and Medicine.
The gathering featured notable BelSU graduates and emerging researchers: Olga Lyutova, a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor in the Department of Russian Language, Professional Speech, and Intercultural Communication; Ulyana Krut, a Candidate of Biological Sciences and Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology; and Dmitry Goncharov, a Candidate of Technical Sciences and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information and Robotic Systems.
The young scientists shared their journeys into the world of research.
Olga Lyutova discussed her interests in pedagogy, linguistics, and foreign languages, highlighting her commitment to working with international students. She emphasised the importance of engaging young people in scientific pursuits. “Natural sciences are closely intertwined with pedagogy. It is vital for young individuals to immerse themselves in science,” Lyutova stated.
Ulyana Krut reflected on how her journey into science began with writing a term paper in the university library’s reading room. This experience significantly influenced her career path.
“Every scientific endeavour starts in a library, which serves as the foundation for all fields of study. Young people must engage with science; our university offers numerous opportunities for this. We need to innovate and explore new directions at the intersection of disciplines through cross-cutting technologies,” Krut remarked.
Dmitry Goncharov described himself more as a researcher than a scientist, noting that research forms the core of his work. He is currently investigating the implications of greenhouse effects caused by climate change on agriculture.
“Research is challenging yet fascinating; it's about tackling questions that have never been answered before,” he commented.
This event not only highlighted the diverse pathways into scientific careers but also encouraged students to embrace the myriad opportunities available to them at BelSU.
